Live Writer Integration

Topics: Troubleshooting

Hi from a new Italian user.

Just installed the new 2.1 version + Composite.Comunity.Blog package (version 1.4.6) on my local machine (VisualStudio 2010).
During the live writer configuration I always get the same error:

Problem with the blog server - Server Error 0 Occured
User is not valid!

Thanks a lot

Hello,

Just tested posting blog from Windows Live Writer 2011 (C1 2.1 version + Composite.Community.Blog version 1.4.6)  and it works.

Also I was able to reproduce provided error when I entered incorrect user name and password.

So, make sure that:

1. In C1 console you have added Blog page (while filling the fields in the Add Page wizard, in the Pagetype selector select the Blog page type)

2. In C1 console you have added Blog Author (Content perspective-> Website Items->Blog Settings ->Authors ->click Add Author). Key fields are Name and Password. They are used to post to the blog from external applications  like Windows Live Writer. External posting is impossible when the password is blank.

Then you can post blog from Live Writer, just follow steps described in our docs site:

  1. Click Add Blog Account.
  2. On the Blog Services page, select Other Services and click Next.
  3. On the Blog Account page, set these parameters:
    • Web address of your blog: Type in http://<hostname>/ (e.g. http://localhost)
    • User name and Password: Type the name and the password you have set up when adding an author in the console.
  4. On the Blog Type page, set these parameters:
    • Type of blog you are using: Select Metaweblog API
    • Remote posting web address for your blog: Type in http://<hostname>/BlogMetaWeblog.ashx (e.g. http://localhost/BlogMetaWeblog.ashx)
  5. On the Select Blog page, select the blog you want to post to and click Next.
  6. Click Finish, to confirm the name of, and save, the blog.

Thank you for the quick answer!
Problem solved (I was missing the "Add author" step).

During the test I tried the theme detection and now I don't know how to delete a temporary post created automatically.
"Temporary Post Used For Theme Detection (b985da96-ea52-4622-896a-0c86580f9b2c - 3bfe001a-32de-4114-a6b4-4005b770f6d7)"

I also reproduced this problem with deleting "Temporary post used for..." and it looks like a bug of the Blog package.

As workaround you can manually delete this post. If you use XML based site locate  file "~\App_Data\Composite\DataStores\Composite.Community.Blog.Entries_Published.xml" and delete entry row for this post.

I got hang at downloading theme. Anyone else have the same issue ?

I'm able to post a basic post but I don't have ability to add category or add tags.  (I already set the user with maximum permission)

Any help ?

Thanks

Hello,

Current integration Windows Live Writer with Composite.Community.Blog enables only post blog articles (adding categories/tags is not integrated. Tags can be added only via C1 console)
