Integrating a Maps API with Composite C1

I know I'm missing something really basic here, but here goes:

I'm integrating a map onto my site and I've got it displaying points from my database, no problem.

What I need to do is get an address that the user enters, use a GeoCoding API from either Google or Bing Maps, get the returned XML and use the Lat and Long as parameters to pass to my database.

I currently can put a lat and lon in the query string, pass it to the database, get a set of points back and add them to the map. I'm just wondering how I can get the address from an input box to a query string. I know it must be simple.

This should make the trick:

xsl:variable name="Submitted" select="c1:GetFormData('CommentSubmit')" />

(make sure you have  xmlns:c1="" and c1 in exclude-result-prefixes).
